What's a "private" area on a Web site?
Most of the SFWA Web site is open to anyone in the world who wants to use it. However, there are certain private areas that are accessible only to SFWA members. You need an ID and password to enter those areas. When we refer to the "private" areas on the site, we mean the areas you can't get into without an ID and password.
I can't get into the private Web areas.
If you are a SFWA member, and you have signed up for and received your ID and password, and they don't work when you enter them into the dialogue box that comes up when you choose a link to a private area on the SFWA site, try rebooting your browser (not your whole computer, just your browser). If you have been logged onto any other private area hosted by SFF Net, with a different ID and password from the one you received as a SFWA member, you'll need to reboot your browser to get the SFWA site to offer you a new chance to enter your ID and password. If rebooting the browser doesn't seem to work, try flushing its cache and/or reloading the page in question.
If you still can't get in, and you're sure you have the right ID and password, please email techsupport@sfwa.org.
I got in a different private area on SFF Net, and now the SFWA site won't let me in its private areas.

When the NAR first went online, I got an ID and password from the Webmaster, and now they don't work.
You need to sign up for a new ID and password; the old ones from before we had full privacy no longer work. We're very sorry for the inconvenience.

If you're not sure of your ID and password, try the help file for testing them. If you know your ID but have forgotten your password, SFF Net can reset it for you.
How do I get a SFF Net email address?
You can upgrade to the extremely inexpensive "mail-and-news" SFF Net membership. Or if you want a home page as well, more than the very minimal one SFWA can provide, you might want to spend a dollar or two more per month for the professional membership. Links to descriptions of all the membership plans can be found on the SFF Net signup page.
How do I get a home page?
SFWA can provide you with a very minimal home page on the SFWA site. This service is intended primarily for SFWAns who are not online, but it is also useful for members who need only a very simple page. For this, see the link in the private area when you have your ID and password.
If you want more space, and the ability to edit and update your home page yourself, you might want to consider upgrading to one SFF Net's very inexpensive paid membership plans. Links to their descriptions can be found on the SFF Net signup page.
