SFWA Speakers' Bureau

The Speakers' Bureau provides the public with access to authors of science fiction and fantasy for the purposes of speaking at dinners, schools, libraries, and so on, with the long view of publicizing SFWA and science fiction/fantasy. (For conventions, see Convention Alert.)

When an inquiry comes in, the Speakers' Bureau discusses the event with the organizers to determine whom they would like to invite and what kinds of authors (fee/no fee, local/out of area, particular subgenre and expertise, etc.) would suit best, before contacting any SFWA members. Once the right author is found and the SFWA member agrees, the Bureau puts author and organizers in touch with each other and they work out the rest of the arrangements.
