Dear Nnedi,

Africa is still an unknown continent, unknown in the sense of "not discovered" and there is still so much to discover as regards authors and other artists.
We humans are a talented species, we are flexible and imaginative. Africa, a vast continent, has been left out of the limelight as regards publicity for far too long.
I am happy to hear you are interested in science fiction. Yes, sci-fi would work in Africa, but not the time-travel stuff, "Children of men," scientific science fiction would work well, showing the possible future, maybe a little "time-travel-come-Scrooge type story, how one can change the present by seeing into the future.

Best of luck,
