RIP: Karl Kroeber 1926-2009
Literary scholar, Karl Kroeber passed away this morning. He was 82. Best known for his work with Native American literature, he was also English and comparative literature at Columbia University. Our condolences go out to his sister, Ursula K. Le Guin, and to all his family and friends.

I’m so very sorry for Ms. Le Guin and her family.
Karl was a good friend, a brilliant scholar, a devoted teacher, and that rarest of beasts, a truly fine human being. Losing him is a terrible blow.
He was kind and wonderful and brilliant, and I will miss him. May he rest in peace.
He taught a wonderful alumni colloquium on American Indian literature which I’ll never forget. He was a devoted scholar and kind man.
