You're right, of course. Reality and TV only intersect in ways that are somewhat akin to mutant babies with fangs and flippers. And I appreciate your point about writing such as this making life a little more difficult for the medical community.

Still ...

I think that most folks know that what they're seeing on TV is a pitched-up version of the truth. We, as viewers, get that there's a certain note of drama added for entertainment value. Sure, what we see will color what we expect when we go into a doctor's office. But, I contend, no more so than going in "cold." The first time I even heard of a "spinal tap," it scared the Jebus out of me. No matter how well a doctor explains that particular procedure, I (and most folks, I believe) hear only "inject, spine, needle."

Ouch.

I really don't think people believe all doctors are evil. Only those doctors who come into the exam room, snap a rubber glove over their hand, and in a menacing voice say, "Hello. I am Dr. Killsalot. Prepare to give me the access codes."

Avoid that and you're aces.

Thank you. As a nurse I can't even watch medical drama shows, they're too ridiculous. And it's no fun for my family since I critique their techniques and make fun of them, ruining the show for the non medical professionals.
