Self-promotion takes a lot of time and effort; and in many ways is a distraction from the process of actual writing. I'm finding it difficult to create a balance with the online taking over as it's so much more interactive and what you write gets published immediately. Whereas writing the novel is not.

Online promotion using social media and blogging is like going to a party. Writing requires solitariness and sometimes it's hard to take yourself away from the party. Well, that's what I find.

I too have thought long and hard as to how to promote my work. With all the 'services' available, how does someone distinguish between great, good and shady? Online books are sometimes their own worst enemies, as much of the content out there hasn't even been filtered for proper English, let alone a good story.
As people scream, READ MY BOOK!, how can good authors make theirs stand out?
