Good remindings! As a writer who use social media, I would say your hints are really useful! Though it depends on the person one interacts... My experience is that there are some people who use social media for finding and buying new products (including books). Many people are glad too to have a friend who's an author and talk about the books he/she wrote (that's not only my experience, but of some of my author friends). So, I guess every rule you mentioned here has exeptions?
There's another good thing about social media an author should not forget, they are a great recource for authors when the matter in hand is about finding new inspiration, facts, opinions about some scenes in the books/stories an author works on. Many of my social media friends helped me with tips and advices about surfing (for my next book), about using some facts I was uncertain about, etc... They became good readers as well.
