This is going to be a huge help for me, thank you! And well written, love the laughs and how naturally they come for you without seeming too forced. One question though – how is auteur theory any different than author intrusion? And I thought auteur theory was only used when describing film directors versus the writers of the film? This #23 really seems totally against everything I’ve ever read about writing fiction.

“The Shifty-Eyed Serpent-Tongued Narrator”

This one really caught my attention. I’ve been experimenting with heteronyms and “meta”-stories — I hesitate to use either of those terms because it doesn’t directly correspond to what I’m trying to do.

However, this paragraph suddenly made something click — this is what I’m trying to do. My plan was to have the narrator be a character (a heteronym) in the backstory — but I realize I’ll get exactly what I want if I move the narrator into the story itself and have the reader _mistrust_ him/me!
