A while back I came up with a new concept for copyright law, and in Canada some of us have been pushing the government to adopt it. We want to change Copyright Law so that Copyright would become non-transferable except by inheritance. Anyone wishing to use a work would have to lease the rights, and any such lease would be for a limited time (I suggested six years) with automatic renewals disallowed.

This is the bare bones. There needs to be language to cover materials in stock, and several other things.

The main aim is to keep control of the work with the Creator. Quite a few writers and musicians like the concept. The big corporations hate it, which tends to make me think that it might just be the solution we need.

Neither the Canadian or American government is going to adopt it of course. They are long on rhetoric where Creator's Rights are concerned, but short on action. Part of the problem is that there are too few Creators holding political office.

Regards
