Thanks folks — I’m happy that it resonates with people. I was listening to Chuck Palahniuk read last night and realized one of the factors that makes his stories great is how unflinchingly he faces horrible things. Really inspirational, particularly when he talked about how autobiographical his writing is.

Thank you. This resonates with me. As a teenager, I didn’t learn to drive because of severe phobias. I also gave up on my writing. It was only in my late 20s that I acquired a driver’s license (though I still avoid city traffic and night driving) and started writing and submitting. I don’t think it’s a coincidence those things happened at the same time.

Thanks for expressing this. I need this reminder now and again. Writing that ‘one true sentence’ can be a lot like doing exploratory surgery on oneself.
