The ArmadilloCon Writing Workshop to Offer a Limited Number of Sponsored Seats for Writers of Color

News from ArmadilloCon:

The ArmadilloCon Writing Workshop will take place at the Omni Southpark on Friday, August 3, 2018. This full-day workshop is presented in conjunction with ArmadilloCon 40, Austin’s literary science fiction and fantasy convention. The Workshop is ideal for new and emerging writers but is open to all.

Now in its 20th year, the Workshop is known for providing writers with the opportunity to work one-on-one with writing professionals in small critique groups. The normal workshop fee is $90, which includes a 3-day membership to the ArmadilloCon Convention.

This year’s instructors include: Holly Black, David Bowles, Martha Wells, William Ledbetter, Nicky Drayden, Marshall Ryan Maresca, Stina Leicht, Christopher Brown, Jessica Reisman, Patrice Sarath, D. L. Young, Cassandra Rose Clarke, Bonnie Jo Stufflebeam, and Rebecca Schwarz (Additional instructors TBA).

In order to promote diversity and access for all, the Workshop is offering a limited number of sponsored seats for writers of color. Diversity is vital to speculative fiction. A genre centered on exploration and encountering the Other must include voices and visions from writers, readers, and thinkers of all kinds.

The workshop actively seeks students and faculty from a variety of backgrounds including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, economic status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, and ability.

Applications for a sponsored seat are due at the time of submission

Submissions to the workshop are due Friday, June 15
