Reprint rights problems on Contentville

Authors are alerted to check for content that might be reprinted without their consent at www.contentville.com. The site lists nearly 1,000 magazine titles including Fantasy and Science Fiction and Starlog. Most magazines listed are nonfiction.

The service offers online reprints of magazine articles for $2.95 each.

The the Authors Guild is investigating the issue and the National Writer's Union has issued an alert at http://www.nwu.org/journ/0007cvil.htm, which includes a letter sent to Contentville in behalf of its members.

Steven Brill, founder of Contentville states that they are, "are keeping exact records of each article that we sell so that we can pay whoever the appropriate copyright owner is," but has not blocked access to reprints that are being challenged.
