Jon Gustafson (1945-2002)
***************************************************

Jon Gustafson, a longtime member of the SF fan and professional communities, passed away early the afternoon of April 13, 2002. Jon had been in a coma for some time, and in accordance with his family's decision and the terms of his living will, life support measures were discontinued on April 8th.

In the fan community, Jon was a founder and continuing organizer of Moscow, Idaho's Moscon and a popular attendee and guest at many other conventions. His extensive writing and editing credits include hundreds of nonfiction articles, contributions to multiple editions of the Science Fiction Encyclopedia, editorship of a number of anthologies, and compilation of the 1995 edition of the SFWA Handbook. As an authority on SF art and publishing, he authored a book on the art of Alex Schomburg and was a professional appraiser of SF art and book collections.

A wake in Jon Gustafson's honor will be held at the University Inn-Best Western in Moscow, Idaho on Saturday, May 4, beginning at 3:00 pm. For details, contact Mike Finkbiner, 208 882-6282 or mike_l_f@hotmail.com. The family plans a memorial celebration this summer, tentatively June 6, in Florence, Oregon, at which time Jon's ashes will be scattered on the waters of the Oregon coast he loved.
