Keith Allen Daniels (1956-2001)
***************************************************

Editor, poet and materials engineer, Keith Allen Daniels, joined the ranks of authors who have been lost to cancer, on December 18, 2001.

Daniels published poetry for nearly 30 years. His poems appeared in Analog, Asimov’s Science Fiction, Weird Tales, and many other books and magazines. In 1990 he founded Anamnesis Press, a specialty publisher of imaginative poetry, science fiction and related non-fiction.

His work was nominated for many awards, and in 1993 he won the National Association of Independent Publishers’ Fallot Literary Award for What Rough Book.

It was with much sadness that I learned of Keith Allen Daniels' passing. We first met at the World Fantasy Convention in Monterey, California in late 1998, when he recognized my nametag. I saw his, and recognized the name from various publications over the years. The first thing out of Keith's mouth was that he had always wanted to meet me, ever since I had published his very first fan article in TANGENT, way back in 1976 (issue #5, Summer '76), called "An Issue at Hand."

He also introduced me to his lovely and effervescent wife, Toni. Keith, Toni, and I spent much of a Friday night in his room, swapping stories, telling jokes, but most of all laughing till we cried. It was a wonderful first meeting and we all came away fast friends. Sometime in 1999 the online version of TANGENT ran one of our Author Profiles on Keith, complete with photo and covers of a few of his wonderful poetry books.

The only other time we ever met was, I think, at the Nebulas in Los Angeles last year, and he and Toni were as warm and bubbly as ever. It was another great reunion. I can't believe he is gone, and at the much too early age of 45. I miss him already, and my condolences go out to Toni.
