Q

Why can't electronic publication count toward membership? I'm amazed that science fiction writers--people who are supposedly forward-thinking and technologically aware--would tolerate this sort of technophobic thinking.

A

Actually, many SFWAns are somewhat technophobic. Don't confuse our fiction with us.

But to answer your question: we're working on it. Just as there are limitations on which print publications are considered "professional," there will be limitations on which electronic publications are considered "professional." Arriving at satisfactory guidelines and getting membership approval will take time. When a decision is reached, it will be reported on the SFWA site.
