Can't Find Private SFWA Newsgroups?

Unsure You Have the Right Password?

The quickest way to check whether you have the right password and, at the same time, access the private SFWA newsgroups is to go to WebNews, find the link called LOG IN, and choose it. A dialogue box will come up that asks for your user ID and password. Fill them in, press enter or click the OK box, and either you'll be let in, or the dialogue box will reappear.

If the latter, you may be using either the wrong password or the wrong username. Try other options of both if you can think of alternate possibilities. You're allowed three failures before the system will lock against you for a time. If you can't get it in three tries, you may need to have your password reset.

If you do get into WebNews by using your existing username and password, you will be offered the opportunity to BROWSE or to look at your FAVORITES. For quick access to the private SFWA areas, choose BROWSE, scroll down the list till you find the link called sff.private*, choose it, and you'll have a new list of all the private newsgroups on SFF Net. Scroll down again till you find a bold-faced listing called sff.private.sfwa* and choose it. Another new list will appear. These are all the SFWA/SFF Net private newsgroups, accessible only to SFWA members.

Do bear in mind that there are also many interesting conversations in the public newsgroups and in the non-SFWA private newsgroups to which you might also like to subscribe.

For information on how to find these private areas via various newsreaders, please read the FAQ and related help files. You'll find newsreader-specific (and browser-specific, if you read news via a browser) info to help you log into the newsgroups that way if you don't like the Webnews interface. If you do like it, you're all set.
