Who's your private Austen? If you dare, read on and answer these five simple questions:
1. If you worked at a bookstore, in which section would you shelve Jane Austen? Romance Humor Self-Help/Relationships Horror You could categorize Jane in nearly any of them. I don't know. 2. Jane Austen wrote: Wonderful novels about love and courtship. Hilarious novels that mocked relationships. As an acute and nonpartisan observer of people. Novels that change every time you read them. Novels about the impact of financial need on the intimate lives of women. I don't know. 3. What are your feelings about men in book clubs? They see reading as a solitary pleasure-when they read at all. They pontificate rather than communicate. They talk more than they share. I can't talk about men right now. I prefer women. They're fine, so long as they're genuinely devoted. Men should join book clubs. Plus, it's a good place to meet women. 4. When it comes to relationships: They're okay for others. I like to set people up. I'm over it and have let myself go-should have thought of it years ago. They're tough and can fall apart, even after years of effort. They're a rollercoaster, an incredible emotional ride. They're comfortable and easy. They're fine, though I haven't been in many. 5. What's your favorite Austen novel? Emma Pride and Prejudice Persuasion Sense and Sensibility Mansfield Park Northanger Abbey
