When We Were Young
When We Were Married
1985--We finally figured out what makes those
(children). I think I look tired.
The Author at
the Santa Fe Nebulas, April, 1998.
1987--Sarah at Dripping Springs, OK, in her bee-yoo-ti-ful bathing suit.
1999--Hanging out at high
school.
The Junior
Sarah is going to do something extraordinary with her life. I don't know what that is yet, but I can't wait to find out. Sarah has been a Peer Tutor since she was a freshman, helping other students with their English work, and was on the girls' soccer team last year. All of her teachers adore her, which she sometimes finds annoying. Her grade point average is 3.75, and she is enrolled in the CODE "smart" classes for her junior year. Her art has been displayed in the Tulsa Public Schools Art Exhibition three times. She has been nominated twice for the National English Merit Award, and was in the National Junior Honor Society in middle school. She's intellectual, persevering, sassy, a voracious reader of fantasy and horror novels, and my favorite youngest daughter. You can email her.
Best Quote from Sarah: She was two years old, strapped in her car seat. Her dad Randy was driving, and suddenly someone pulled out in front of them and he had to slam on the brakes. From the back seat, he heard Sarah say softly, "Goddamn son of a bitch."
1982--Karen Got a Book for
Christmas!
Summer, 1983--Dandelions are so pretty, don't you agree?
The Senior (1999-2000 school
year)
Karen is in the 1998-99 Who's Who Among American High School Students. She's a talented musician who plays the alto saxophone, oboe, mellaphone and trumpet. Her grade point average is 3.87. She's enrolled in the CODE "smart" classes for her senior year, and is the woodwind section leader for the band. She has successfully auditioned for and performed with the Tulsa Metro City Honor Bands every year since the 8th Grade. A former classic soccer player, Karen is sweet, compassionate, disciplined and my favorite oldest daughter.
Best Quote from Karen: The Planet of the Apes was on tv one recent weekend afternoon. Charleton Heston is in his cage being sprayed with water, and he howls, "It's a madhouse! A mad hou-se!" Karen asked, "What's a man hose?" Her half-brother Jason instantly started howling, "It's a man hose, a man hose!" He will never let her live this down, but I think she's resigned herself to that.
