What's New:

Many authors start their web pages with biographical information, but frankly, I think I've led a very boring life. (That's not a complaint.  "May you live in interesting times." really is a curse, and "May you lead an interesting life." is even worse.) When I go to my favorite authors' web sites the thing I'm really looking for is, What's Coming Out Next!

The paperback of Shield of Stars is getting a new cover!  So will Sword of Waters, which is due out in the fall of this year, and Crown of Earth which I think comes out in 2010.  I love the new look, and when I get the finished versions I'll post them on the website.  I've seen the artwork for both Shield and Sword, but without the title block.  I can't wait to see what this artist does with Crown.

The Last Knight, the first of the Knight and Rogue books, is out in hardback.  When I go to school visits and kids ask me, "Which is your favorite book of all you've written?" I haven't had a definitive answer.  I tell them—truthfully—that Songs of Power has this really cool combination of science and magic, and that Matter of Profit has my personal best chase scene, and that the Farsala books have this incredibly twisty, political plot.  There's something about each of my books that's makes them better than the others in that particular way.  (Most kids think this is a cop-out on my part, that of course I have a personal favorite, but it really was true that I didn't...till now.  The Knight and Rogue books may not be the best I've ever written, in this way or that, but they are my personal favorites.  I absolutely love the two main characters; Fisk is so cynical, and Michael is so crazy, and they're so funny together that these books are a blast to write.  If my readers like them as well as I do, there will be six in the series, and the second book, Rogue's Home, will be out in September of '08.

And though this is looking some distance into the future—probably not out till '10 at the earliest—I've recently agreed to write two sequels to The Goblin Wood.  Yes, I'm finally going to get Tobin and Makenna out of trouble...eventually.

I'll also be starting an entirely new two-book series.  (Can you call it a series if it's only two books?)  My tentative series title is The Raven Duet, though that may change, and the individual books are still creatively titled Book 1 and Book 2.  It's a Young Adult fantasy in a near future SF setting, and it's not quite like anything I've done before.  The tone is a bit more edgy, urban fantasy style, but it's got a sexy lying shapeshifter instead of sexy vampires.
