INSTRUCTIONS FOR RE-FORMATTING AND DISTRIBUTING SFWA MEDIA RELEASE Because this is going out in text format, you will need to do some reformatting before printing and distributing this media release. Please do the following: Center and bold the first three lines. Double space the body of the text. Bold the location credit (- New York, NY - ). Center the ### at the end of the release. Fill in the blanks in the release with your local information: contact name and phone number, city, bookstore, region, etc. If you have local writers up for an award, include the Optional Paragraph and fill in their names. The object of a media release is to interest local newspapers and television stations in doing an expanded piece on the booksigning, or on SFWA, or on SF in general. Be prepared to offer further information if you are called, or have someone lined up to whom you can direct a reporter for an interview (like one of our SFWA officers). Have names and phone numbers available. Mail the media release to all local newspapers and television stations. If you have local magazines, hit them, too--we're a little late for a feature piece, but they might get us into their Community Calendar. Get the small neighborhood newspapers, as well as the major ones, especially if you have a writer associated with the particular target group of that newspaper--and be sure you point that out in the media release. (i.e., "Among the writers signing books will be Catherine Wells, a resident of the Village of Casas Adobes.")
