"I Am A Writer" Critique Workshop Notes:

In addition to the I Am A Writer seminar, set for Saturday, March 1, 2003, Ken Rand is offering a fiction manuscript critique workshop. Here are some details about the critique workshop:

  1. The workshop will probably be held the evening of, and probably at the same location as the day-long seminar (Hampton Inn, 108th South in Sandy, Utah, off I-15), but that may change. Students will be contacted directly about any changes, and a reminder will be sent a week in advance.
  2. Manuscripts and registration fees must reach Ken Rand no later than Saturday, Feb. 15. This is a firm deadline.
  3. Registration fee for the critique workshop is $15. You may attend the critique workshop without attending the seminar ($60) or vice versa, or you may attend both (total $75).
  4. Manuscripts must be fiction, any genre, finished, up to 5,000 words, or 20 typewritten pages. Manuscripts should be in standard submission form. If you don't know what this is, don't worry. It will be discussed both in the seminar and in the critique workshop. No cover letter is necessary. Do not submit nonfiction, essays, poetry, plays or scripts of any kind, or novel chapters or excerpts or outlines/synopses, or work written for children readers. Hard copy only. E-mail submissions will not be accepted.
  5. Attendees will have their manuscript thoroughly critiqued, including lots of red ink on their manuscript, at least a page of single-spaced general comments, a verbal critique, the benefit of hearing verbal critiques of other student's manuscripts, and numerous relevant handouts.
  6. Interested writers are urged to secure a place in the critique workshop soonest as class size is limited and on a first-come, first-served basis.
  7. Submit manuscript and fee to Ken Rand, 1498 Bora Bora Dr., West Jordan, UT 84084.
  8. If you have any questions, contact Rand at the above address, or by e-mail at KRand27577@aol.com, or phone 801-568-1666.
  9. Check out Rand's biography, extensive bibliography (since 1996), and student comments.
