Fontenay (1917-2007) *************************************************** Charles Louis Fontenay died in a Memphis hospital on Saturday morning, January 27, 2007. Born March 17, 1917, Fontenay worked over 50 years as a journalist, most of them for The Tennessean in Nashville. A member of Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, he published 3 novels in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Following his retirement in 1987, he published 20 books, including two collections, and the Kipton series of children's books. In 1996 he received the Wollheim Award, and in 1997 he received a special Golden Duck Award. Shortly after his retirement, Fontenay wrote his own obituary, which was published last week at www.rctimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070128/OBITS/701280402/1090/NEWS. His memorial service was held February 3, 2007 at the High Point Funeral Chapel in Memphis. He is survived by a daughter, Gretchen of Chattanooga; a son, Blake Fontenay, a reporter for the Jacksonville, Fla., Times-Union, and a granddaughter.
