****************************************************** Public Radio requests comments on Sputnik from SFWAns ****************************************************** Weekend America, a weekly two-hour radio program by American Public Media/Minnesota Public Radio has contacted SFWA, requesting comments about the influence of the Sputnik launch on professional writers. In anticipation of the 50th anniversary of Sputnik's launch, they are producing a feature on the technological and cultural impact of the event that propelled the Cold War into the Space Age. To help them tell the story, they are looking for people who want to share their memories of Sputnik's launch or tell about the significance of the subsequent race for space as they've experienced it. Weekend America is asking organizations of scientists, science teachers, and professional writers to announce this project to their membership and would like to hear and air personal stories about the massive shift in the nation's focus and the impact Sputnik had on careers, memories, science, or ways of thinking about the world and its future. A web page has been created where SFWA members can tell about their insights: mericanpublicmedia.publicradio.org/pin/sputnik Posted August 29, 2007 |
