Jack McDevitt: Odyssey and Outbound

Two new books by Jack McDevitt will appear in November 2006. Odyssey, from Ace, is the fifth novel in the Priscilla Hutchins arc that began with The Engines of God. Moonriders, the 23rd century equivalent of UFO's, set an asteroid on a collision course with a world that has no intelligent life. Meantime, a 15-year-old girl encounters a ghostly apparition that seems to be Hutch in an orbiting museum in a distant star system. No one is sure what is going on, but Gregory MacAllister comes up with part of the answer while attending the notorious Hellfire Trial in North Carolina.

Coinciding with McDevitt's appearance as guest of honor at Windycon, ISFiC will release Outbound, a collection of his short fiction and essays, with commentaries by Michael Bishop and Barry Malzberg.

"(McDevitt is) the logical heir to Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke."

— Stephen King

"'Why read Jack McDevitt?' The question should be: 'Who among us is such a slow pony that s/he isn't reading McDevitt?'"

— Harlan Ellison
