Jay Lake Organizes Benefit

Jay Lake Auctionlet: Lake, Cooper, Klasky, McIntyre

SF writer and Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America member Jay Lake (Rocket Science) has organized an "auctionlet" to benefit his neighbor, who is raising grandchildren on a limited income. Writers, artists, and friends donated artwork, books, and services. Lake contributed his striking three-photo "Doll's Head" series.

Donations include books, a hand-dyed silk scarf, jewelry, critiques, and a Tuckerization (high bidder's name in a work of fiction).

SFWA member Mindy Klasky, author of Girl's Guide to Witchcraft, offers a critique of a manuscript up to fifty pages. The critique currently leads all the items in the bidding.

SFWA member Brenda Cooper (The Silver Ship and the Sea; co-author with Larry Niven of Building Harlequin's Moon) and ten-year-old Katie Cramer donated a beaded necklace and matching earrings.

Vonda N. McIntyre (The Moon and the Sun, "Of Mist, and Grass, and Sand"), also a long-time member of SFWA, donated a "featherless boa" and an anemone. The beadwork technique is based on fractals and hyperbolic geometry.

The auctionlet, on eBay, continues through Tuesday, 12 December 2006.
