The Clarion West Writers Workshop is running an unusual fundraising auction on eBay this week, offering bidders the right to appear in stories by various science-fiction and fantasy writers: Paul Park, Eileen Gunn, Vylar Kaftan, and K. Tempest Bradford. Eight auctions are underway already and will end at some point after 9:30 p.m. PST on June 26, 2007. Check out the auctions.
The writers, of course, can't guarantee where or when (or even if) their stories will be published, but, in the past, stories featuring tuckerizations, as they are called, have appeared in well-known magazines and Best-of-the-Year anthologies. (In 2005, Eileen Gunn offered two tuckerizations, for donor cat Dominic and donor human Susan Gossman. The finished story was published in Nature, and is also included in Hartwell & Cramer's Year's Best SF 12.) You can read it on the Concatentation website. All receipts from the auction help run the Seattle workshop.
