Cecilia Dart-Thornton: The Well of Tears

Cecilia Dart-Thornton: The Well of Tears Cecilia Dart-Thornton: The Iron Tree

"Dart-Thornton conjures up her world of Tir and its rituals and beliefs in the luminous yet hard-edged manner of Jack Vance or Mary Gentle."

— The Washington Post

Tor Books, the largest publisher of science fiction and fantasy in the world, has teamed up with SCI FI Channel, the channel that fuels the imagination, to bring their readers and fans the best of new science fiction and fantasy. Each month, one carefully selected Tor title receives the SCI FI stamp of approval, which appears on the spine and cover of the book. Cecilia Dart-Thornton's The Well of Tears: Book Two of the Crowthistle Chronicles is the latest Tor book to be included in the SCI FI essential books program.

Renowned for her poetic narrative and lush backdrops, Cecilia Dart-Thornton once again weaves together a skillfully crafted world of vivid beauty that is rich in detail, drenched in legend, and inhabited by strange and wondrous creatures. The Well of Tears, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the acclaimed novel The Iron Tree (available in mass market paperback from Tor in 2/06), is a stunning and heart-breaking read.

Young Jewel is the center of her parents' joy, surrounded by an abundance of love and peace. But when her parents are suddenly killed, Jewel's world shatters and she and her uncle must flee from the only home she has ever known. During their flight, Jewel discovers that her parents were caught in a tragic prophecy and had hidden in the marshland for years to protect their secret-that Jewel is the last of the line of the dreaded sorcerer Janus Jaravhor. Her dark heritage puts her in grave danger. For in her veins flows the key that will unlock the Dome of Strang, a key that King Uabhar will do anything to find.

But not all is lost. When Jewel learns that the legendary Dome of Strang is no longer guarded, she decides to continue her journey to Orielthir to unravel the mystery of the hidden stronghold, and with it the truth about her father's legacy. Accompanied by an enigmatic young weathermaster, Jewel's discoveries lead her on an unexpected quest. Together, the two young people encounter marvels and misfortunes-and discover that the final riddle ultimately lies with the extraordinary Well of Tears...
