Nebula Awards Weekend
The Forty-Seventh Nebula Awards Weekend will be held Thursday through Sunday, May 17 to May 20, 2012 at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, Virginia, near Reagan National Airport. Parking is available nearby.
We honor Connie Willis as our Grand Master!
To register, go to the Nebula Awards Weekend page and then click on “Registration” in the menu to the immediate left. Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the “Register” button.
Tours, workshops and panels are available for registered attendees (the number of people who can be accommodated on the tours and workshops is limited.)
Ship packages home via UPS Sunday from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the hotel.
The Mass Autographing Session on Friday, May 18th will be followed by a reception to honor the nominees and other honorees.
Our Toastmaster, Walter Jon Williams, will conduct a half-day Writers Workshop, emphasizing structure and plotting, on Friday morning. Astronaut Mike Fincke is our Keynote Speaker.
You don’t have to be a nominee, a member of SFWA, or even a writer to participate in the weekend. There will be seating in the rear of the room for those who wish to see the ceremony but were not at the banquet. The cost to register is $100.00 for non-SFWA members and $90.00 for SFWA members from now on and at the door. Banquet tickets and memberships are no longer available unless prior arrangements have been made.

Today the board of directors of SFWA voted to add Lightspeed Magazine to the list of SFWA qualifying markets. Just celebrating its first year online, this imprint of Prime Books is a 2011 Hugo Award nominee. Edited by John Joseph Adams, the magazine features science-fiction short stories and non-fiction. They have published SFWA authors such as Nancy Kress, Bruce Sterling, and An Owomoyela.
Because they have met the SFWA minimum requirements since they opened, any stories published are retroactively eligible for SFWA membership qualification.

Today the board of directors of SFWA voted to add Redstone Science Fiction to the list of SFWA qualifying markets. Just celebrating its first year online, this market features science-fiction short stories and essays. They have published SFWA authors such as Cory Doctorow, Vylar Kaftan, and Cat Rambo.
Because they have met the SFWA minimum requirements since they opened, any stories published are retroactively eligible for SFWA membership qualification.

The board of directors of SFWA voted to add the magazine Bull Spec to the list of SFWA qualifying markets. Bull Spec is a magazine of speculative fiction, published quarterly. While it accepts fiction from all over, it aims to be a strong voice for Triangle- and North Carolina-area speculative fiction.
Because Bull Spec has been meeting SFWA’s minimum professional rates since they began publishing, any speculative fiction sale to them may be used toward membership with SFWA.

Today the board of directors of SFWA unanimously voted to add Highlights for Children to the list of SFWA qualifying markets. This venerable magazine began publishing in 1946 publishes short fiction for children. It has served as an early gateway to reading for many science-fiction and fantasy writers.
Speculative fiction short story sales to Highlights may be used toward membership with SFWA.

Today the board of directors of SFWA unanimously voted to add Beneath Ceaseless Skies to the list of SFWA qualifying markets. This online magazine publishes literary adventure fantasy set in secondary worlds. Issues come out bi-weekly with two stories per issue.
They have published SFWA authors such as Aliette de Bodard, Charles Coleman Finlay, and David D. Levine.
Because Beneath Ceaseless Skies has been meeting SFWA’s minimum professional rates since they began publishing, any fiction sale to them may be used toward membership with SFWA.

Today the board of directors of SFWA unanimously voted to add Apex Magazine to the list of SFWA qualifying markets. When Apex moved online in June of 2008, one of editor Jason Sizemore’s reasons was to be able to pay his authors SFWA pro-rates and to get them a wider audience.
Apex is known for its blend of Science-fiction and horror, garnering regular nominations on the Stoker ballot. They have published SFWA authors such as Jennifer Pelland, Glenn Lewis Gillette, and Ben Bova.
Short fiction published with Apex from June, 2008 forward are now qualifying sales for membership with SFWA. Congratulations to Jason, the entire editorial staff at Apex Magazine and their writers!
