    This book is the Swiss Army knife of activity books. All the tools a child needs to do the experiments are attached to the book. Attachments include polarizing lenses, 3-D glasses, a packet of solution that freezes when you click a clicker, and more.

  • Bending Light, An Exploratorium Toolbook, by Pat Murphy and the Exploratorium (Little Brown, 1993)

    The first in a series of Exploratorium Toolbooks, Bending Light provides children ages 8 to 12 with a hand lens and instructions for experimenting with the lens.

  • Explorabook, A Kid's Science Museum in a Book, by John Cassidy with the assistance of Pat Murphy and Paul Doherty (Klutz Press, 1991).

    This collaborative project was authored by John Cassidy of Klutz Press, working closely with Paul Doherty, head of the Exploratorium's teaching programs, and myself. The book provides children with a variety of tools-including a magnet, a lens, a diffraction grating, and packets of agar-and with instructions on how to use these tools in their own experimentation.
