FOGcon Rolls Into the Bay Area

FOGcon has issued the following news:

Walnut Creek will once again get a little more fantastic as it welcomes back FOGcon on March 7-9, 2014. Celebrating its fourth year in the Bay Area and its third year in Walnut Creek, Friends of Genre (FOGcon) is a literary-themed Science Fiction & Fantasy convention attracting over 200 fans and creators for a weekend of panel discussions, meet-ups, readings, and celebration.

The theme of 2014 convention is Secrets. Con chair Guy W. Thomas says of the theme, “Science Fiction has a long history with secret hideouts, secret societies, even secret worlds. So who decides what is secret? How do we keep secrets? How do we discover what is secret? That’s a start to future conversations.”

FOGcon 4 will honor two current industry professionals at the 2014 event: Hugo-nominated writer and musician Seanan McGuire and World Fantasy Award-winning novelist Tim Powers. FOGcon 4 will also posthumously honor James Tiptree Jr., who wrote groundbreaking science fiction stories under a masculine pen name to skirt the limiting gender conventions of her time.

To continue raising standards for the field of SFF conventions, FOGcon offers affordable childcare and registration, a comprehensive accessibility policy, and a BART-accessible location.
