In Memoriam: Robert R. Chase

Robert R. Chase (30 August 1948–20 October 2025) was a science-fiction short story writer and novelist.

A long-time attorney for the United States Army and science-fiction fan, Chase wrote three novels, published between 1986 and 1991, of which The Game of Fox and Lion was a finalist for the Baltimore Science Fiction Society Compton Crook Award. Chase is most known for his science fiction short stories, which were published in the major speculative fiction magazines over the course of a full forty years.

Of his most recent piece, “Lost Recall” in Asimov’s Science Fiction, author M. L. Clark says, “Chase distinguished himself as a writer who could find the light, the humanity, and the scientific curiosity even in themes often applied to more antagonistic ends.”

Robert R. Chase lived 77 years.
