The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association is proud to support creators in science fiction, fantasy, and related genres. Whenever we uplift, defend, advocate for, and educate within these disciplines, we contribute to a larger push to keep literature, learning, critical thinking, and creative practice going strong.

That’s why, for three of the most potent months in a writer’s calendar – during November writing challenges, end-of-year deadline scrambles, and the thrilling dawn of a new year’s goals – we invite you into our Winter Worlds of Giving.

Since 1965, SFWA has provided a range of member and public benefits to assist creators at every stage of their careers. We have public resources for writers still aspiring to their first big sale. We stand with writers preparing for their legacy. And along the way, we provide grants for projects supporting related genres, emergency medical funding to writers in need, contract support and legal advocacy, and plenty of uplift and community through our brilliant volunteer teams and their projects.

But we have always done so with a lean staff supported by a tremendous group of volunteers. This means that every dollar counts, and every commitment to recurring donation or sponsorship moves mountains.

When we ask for your donation, it goes to Where the Need Is Greatest, so that we can respond to the most pressing needs of writers every step along the way.

    SFWA serves its writers at every stage of their careers. We have public resources for writers still aspiring for their first big sale. We stand with writers preparing their legacy materials at the end of the journey. And along the way, we provide grant funding to initiatives supporting related genres, emergency medical funding to writers in need, contract support and legal advocacy for writers struggling along the way, and plenty of uplift and community through our brilliant volunteer teams and their projects.

Work on “Sins of the Future: Imagining Octavia E. Butler’s Response to Sinners through the Lens of Black Speculative Feminisms," and “Annie, Mary, and Pearline: Shattering Black Female Archetypes" for The Sinners Reader. The Sinner Reader is an academic text exploring the cultural themes of the movie starring Michael B. Jordan.

I'm an indie author who has been a full member of SFWA since 2022. I write steampunk fairy tale retellings and alternate history populated with monsters and women in STEM. During 2025, like many people, between current events and struggles with my health, I fell behind on projects. I'm in the midst of revisions for a Gothic fairy tale retelling that I absolutely need to finish ASAP. I'm slowly getting back on track with two conventions this month: TeslaCon, a steampunk convention that I'm attending next week, along with Fables and Flames, a new romantasy themed event. I'm excited about having the in-person community for those events with readers, but I'm so happy for this campaign's online community. With so many people drafting in November, it'd be great to find more authors in the trenches of revisions.
